Every Office Needs a Ray of Sunshine!
By Tammy Hinojos, Director of Editorial Services
Spring 2020 surely wasn’t what any of us expected, but no one can argue that at least the weather has been beautiful! Here at MPR, the forecast looks great, and our newest team member Jordan Austin really brings the sunshine.
I recently sat down with Jordan, an accounts assistant. A graduate of Texas A&M University with a BA in business communications, Jordan joined the team in September of last year and she has really hit the ground running!
TH: Jordan, you joined us at a busy, busy time in the life of our agency! How are you settling in?
JA: I love it! I’ve always had an interest in marketing and customer service. And a fun side note is that I’ve been around this industry my whole life. My dad is a laser sales rep for cataract and LASIK, so I grew up around ophthalmology and technology, watching him do projects and reading the industry magazines he kept around the house. Working at MPR is a great opportunity to explore my professional interests and also to connect with my dad in a new way.
TH: What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned so far? And how about one fun thing you’ve learned that you didn’t know before.
JA: I’m learning something new almost daily, and it’s really nice to work on a team where there is so much organization and communication and collaboration. This team is really all on the same page!
One fun thing I’ve learned? Well, I don’t know if it’s fun or not, but I have definitely learned not to just say something without knowing the facts, because I have one coworker who is a serial researcher and he will call you on it!
TH: What do you like to do outside of work?
JA: I consider myself an extrovert and I really, really like being around people. I love traveling with family and friends and spending time at the lake. I have an adorable dog named Harley, who keeps me busy. Also, I’m pretty skilled at makeup and love to create all different kinds of looks for myself and for other people. I think I have like 15 different makeup palettes!
TH: What’s something most people don’t know about you?
JA: Most people find it hard to believe, but I love to play video games! Okay, I’m actually a video game nerd. One of my all-time favorite games is The Last of Us, which is an action-adventure game where you start your journey in a post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested United States.
TH: Okay, last question. What’s the next big project on your plate?
JA: I’m really excited about our new “Texans Helping Texans and the rest of y’all, too!” campaign to help small businesses recover and re-engage after the setback of COVID-19. And I’m looking forward to taking a bigger role in assisting with new business development.
At MPR, we don’t all play video games and have crazy makeup application skills. And we’re not all research junkies (okay, fine, most of us are). We’re unique and diverse, but our common denominator is our collective Yes-mentality. We are thinkers and doers; trusted experts in marketing and public relations.
