Why Social Media Should Be Part of Your Marketing Plan

Posted in Social Media | May 2,2022

What exactly is social media marketing? It is the use of social media platforms and websites to promote a product or service. The team at Miller Public Relations are experts in this field.

Social media is the place to tell a story through a photo or video, but it doesn’t stop at just your news feed, timeline, or Snapchat story. The paid side of social media can excel your business to targeted audiences as well. While you increase your brand’s visibility, you set the tone for what your customers can expect when they visit your business.

If you don’t utilize social media for your business or practice, we recommend that you do. There are many growth opportunities when it comes to social media. According to DigitalMarketing.org, almost 59% of the world’s population is online. Because of this, marketers have a huge opportunity to reach potential consumers.

Five Core Pillars of Social Media Marketing

Buffer has come up with five core pillars of social media marketing:

  1. Strategy
  2. Planning and Publishing
  3. Listening and Engagement
  4. Analytics and Reporting
  5. Advertising.

Let’s get into it!

Before posting content to your social media platforms, ask yourself these questions:

  • What are your goals? Social media can help increase brand awareness, as well as generate engagement.
  • Which platforms do you want to focus on? There are many platforms to choose from, but the major ones include Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok
  • What type of content do you want to share? Think about the content that will attract your target audience best. Is it educational or entertaining? Videos, photos or links? All of these are great things to focus on!

Planning and Publishing

In order to make social media work for your business, you must be consistent with posting. In doing so, you are giving your brand an opportunity to be discovered by future customers.

Publishing can be as simple as sharing a blog on your socials or posting a five-second video. By doing this, you are maximizing your reach on social media.

Lastly, you need to make sure you post your content. There are a number of platforms you can use to schedule your content, just do some research on which will work best for you.

Listening and Engaging

As your business grows, people will start talking about it. Some will comment on your posts, tag you in their own posts and even direct message you. If it’s a positive comment, acknowledge it with joy and happiness. If it’s a not-so-nice comment, still address it and offer support to correct the situation before it gets worse.

Analytics and Reporting

After posting for a month or so, you’ll want to see how your posts are performing. Are you reaching enough people? Are you reaching the right people? Once you have posted for at least two months, you should be able to compare your analytics to the month before.

Once you’ve established everything listed above, you might want to consider advertising on certain platforms. This will allow you to reach a wider audience other than the people who currently follow or like your page. You can target demographics, interests, behaviors and more.
